People act like the idea of someone other than Cruz or Trump winning the GOP nomination would be a great offense because the party would be "parachuting" someone in to be the nominee against the will of the people.

But that isn't what would happen.  What would happen is that a majority of the delegates could not agree on Trump or Cruz, and the delegates would therefore have no choice but to look elsewhere.  This is all in the hands of the delegates.  If a majority of them can pick Trump or Cruz, it will be Trump or Cruz.  If they cannot, then it won't.
