Key
Distribution - Name of archive, usually the same or similar to the module the distribution contains. Click on link to go to documentation and download links for the module at http://search.cpan.org/.
MacPerl Version - The version of MacPerl the distribution is for. "5.004" means any MacPerl version before 5.6.1 that ends in "r4". The last release for these distributions is "5.2.0r4". "5.6" means any MacPerl version based on perl 5.6, including "5.6.1". "5.8" includes any MacPerl based on perl 5.8 (or 5.7.3).
Author - CPAN author ID of the distribution's author. Click on link to get more information about the author.
Version - Current version of distribution.
Port - Version number of and link to current port of distribution.
B - Notes whether or not port contains binary builds.
In - Date and person who checked in distribution for porting. Not necessarily the same person who will do the porting.
Out - Date and person who has claimed distribution for porting.
Done - Date and person who finished port of distribution.
Other Information
If a module is not listed here, there is no port available that we are aware of; but realize that most modules do run under MacPerl. See the CPAN Testers site for more information about whether or not a module works under a given platform.
For fixed standard library modules, see Paul Schinder's Fixed Library Modules ftp directory.
Binary builds will only work with the CFM68K and PPC builds of MacPerl, which excludes the standard MacPerl build on 68K, and excludes the bigappl distribution, which is a static build for 68K. The binaries require dynamic loading, which only CFM68K and PPC builds have. For MacPerl 5.6 and above, only PPC is supported.
Binaries are inherently more dangerous, and may contain viruses. You have been warned.
Installation
To install any of these packages, you can download them directly, or, if they are on CPAN, you can type install AUTHOR/distribution at the cpan> prompt from CPAN.pm, like:
cpan> install CNANDOR/GD-1.18-bin-2-MacOS.tar.gzIf you choose to download the archive directly, you can still install it automatically with the installme program. That program, and everything else needed to use CPAN.pm, comes in the cpan-mac distribution in the authors/id/CNANDOR CPAN directory.For more general installation information, see the MacPerl module installation information.
